Founders Talk
Steve Brown CEO of accesso will be telling his story and talking about what he learned along the way. As Chief Operating Officer – North America and Europe at accesso, Steve Brown leads the day-to-day operations throughout North America and Europe. Like many attractions industry veterans, Brown’s early theme park career began during college as an hourly employee at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. After a break to pursue his MBA, he returned to Disney where he held a variety of roles with increasing responsibility in financial planning and pricing strategy including development of revised multi-day admission offerings to incorporate the opening of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. In 1999, Brown was named Director, Walt Disney World Ticketing where he led all aspects of the Resort’s ticketing process across its nine gated attractions including pricing strategy, fulfillment operations, training and financial management. In 2002 he was named Vice President, Revenue Management for the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Brown successfully drove dramatic growth in park admissions and hotel revenues through significant changes to strategic and promotional pricing, the introduction of new ticket options and by leveraging technology to expand sales distribution channels. In this broad based executive role, he held primary financial accountability for the Resort’s hotel and ticket revenues, led all promotional and strategic pricing efforts, and managed the attendance forecasting and visitation research functions. In 2005 his role was expanded to encompass line-of-business responsibility for the Disneyland Annual Passholder program including acquisition and renewal marketing, passholder experience optimization, CRM and pricing strategy. Brown’s contributions were key to the Disneyland Resort’s 2005-2006 record financial performance during the celebration of the landmark attraction’s 50th anniversary. Prior to joining accesso, Brown served as the corporate Vice President of Ticket Strategy and Sales for Six Flags. While at Six Flags, he led a 220 person sales force responsible for driving nearly 35% of the company’s admissions revenue. Brown championed an overhaul of the company’s eCommerce process, which doubled the already significant online sales and established Six Flags’ national partnerships with major distributors including Expedia, Travelocity, Best Buy Reward Zone and Costco. He led a comprehensive, research based review of the company’s ticket pricing and developed the strategic plan for 2007 price adjustments across the company’s North American theme parks and water parks. The implementation of this plan contributed significantly to 2007 attendance growth and the company’s positive cash flow results for the first time in its history. Brown received his MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta and graduated with a BS in Marketing from the University of South Florida in Tampa.

The One Page Leadership Tool to Transform You, Your Culture & Your Team...
Often times we launch a company because we love what we do or have seized an opportunity. Sometimes leadership isn't our natural gift, talent and well, this people thing, creating a culture, work family and leading is way, way over our heads. Pam Hoelzle is a life time entrepreneur who has taught business at the MBA and undergraduate level and coached and consulted thousands of founders. Pam's leadership style was developed in the crucible of a service organization she and her business partner built- leading a team of 500 team members serving 23,000 clients a week -Pam failed her way to becoming the leader she is today. In an attempt to create an empowering and liberated work- family culture Pam spent six years re-inventing her company culture. Along the way she created a one page leadership tool which she now shares with her clients and founders, leaders. This will be a high energy, interactive leadership workshop experience and you will leave with Pam's one page leadership tool ....when it's all over.

Diversity in Tech
Diversity is a hot topic in technology circles these days with several prominent companies like Google, Facebook, & Apple being more transparent about their workforce and their concerted efforts to make their teams more reflective of the communities they serve. Recent studies and data have shown that companies with a diverse workforce often perform better in many ways, including increased innovation and a better bottom line.

A distinguished panel of technology leaders from our community have agreed to help facilitate discussion on this important topic. We are inviting you to join us to bring together our technology community to have an open and honest discussion about the challenges and opportunities in developing more diversified talent as well as attracting and maintaining a diverse workforce. We’ll hear some personal experiences of success, set-backs, and suggestions on how we can create a more diverse and successful work environment.

The meeting will be held at PowerDMS’ offices downtown in the Exchange Building, 101 S Garland Ave, Suite 300, Orlando, FL 32801.

A light continental breakfast will be provided,.

To help us plan accordingly we would appreciate your RSVP online.

BarCamp Orlando

BarCamp Orlando is Saturday April 23rd at Church Street Exchange Building starting at 9:30 AM!  If you want a T-shirt and a speaking slot I highly recommend you come early (as in before 11 AM).  We always seem to run out of both as the day progresses.

Presenting

  • If you plan to present with slides, please bring the proper VGA adapter for your laptop and do not depend on / expect any wifi.  Also please try to ensure your talk does not go too far beyond the 20 minute mark.  Each talk slot will be on the hour and half hour, allowing for a little time for questions (5 mins) and for foot traffic (5 mins).
  • The board will open for talk signups at 9:30 AM and the first talks will start at 10 AM.

Venues

  • The venue's this year will be Canvs, the Iron Yard, and maybe a few other spaces.. depending.

Helping Setup

  • If you want to help setup (which mostly means unload chairs), feel free to come hang out around 9 AM.

Here is the Schedule for Saturday (right off the website)

  • 9:30 am Doors open, people can sign up for talks on the big whiteboard.
  • 10:00 am Talks start. There are three rooms for presentations, and each presentation will have 25 minutes and they will be spaced out. We recommend that you limit your talks to about 20 minutes to allow 5 minutes for discussion (and incase you run long).

  • 1:00 pm Talks resume.
  • 5:00 pm BarCamp ends and the after-party starts !
